Capturing the Double-Arch Shoreline

Spiaggia di Tuerredda is widely considered one of the most photogenic coastal landscapes in the Mediterranean. The unique geometry of the beach, featuring a double-arched sweep of sand split by a central sandy spit, provides a variety of compositions. The shallow, clear water turns turquoise, jade, and deep cobalt, creating strong contrast against the light-colored sand.

To capture the double-arch shape, photographers should seek elevated positions. The SP71 scenic road offers pull-off areas situated directly above the bay, which are excellent for wide-angle panoramic shots. From these roadside viewpoints, a focal length of 24mm to 35mm on a full-frame camera allows you to frame the entire cove, including Capo Malfatano in the distance.

Best Vantage Points & Angles

The Malfatano Trail: A rugged walking path climbs the rocky cliffs on the western edge of the bay toward Torre di Capo Malfatano. This trail offers a unique angle looking back at Tuerredda. The view showcases the sandy spit and the Isola di Tuerredda islet, positioned in the middle of the calm waters.

The Sandy Spit: Walking out onto the central spit at low tide offers a ground-level perspective. Frame the islet as a focal point against the incoming turquoise ripples. The fine sand acts as a natural reflector, filling in shadows for close-up portraits.

The Islet Scramble: Swimmers or kayakers can carry waterproof dry bags to Isola di Tuerredda. The islet features rocky contours covered in wild mastic bushes. Scrambling to the top of the islet provides a panoramic view of the entire beach and the dunes, framed by clear waters.

Golden Hours & Light Quality

The quality of light changes dramatically throughout the day. For soft, warm tones and calm, empty sands, shoot during the morning golden hour (06:30 AM to 08:00 AM). The wind is typically calm at this hour, producing reflection effects on the water.

To highlight the intense turquoise color of the water, shoot between 11:30 AM and 01:30 PM, when the sun is directly overhead. A circular polarizing filter is essential to reduce surface glare and reveal the rocky reefs beneath.

🚫 Drone Regulations

Under ENAC (Italian Civil Aviation Authority) guidelines, flying drones directly over crowded beaches is strictly illegal.

Furthermore, because Tuerredda is an environmentally protected reserve, drone flights require special municipal authorization to protect nesting birds.
