My Journey in Southern Sardinia

My name is Matteo Bianchi. I am a freelance travel writer and outdoor researcher. I have spent the last seven years living in Cagliari, the historic capital of Sardinia. My work focuses on documenting the delicate coastal ecosystems of the Mediterranean, with a specific focus on the environmental challenges of over-tourism in the South Sardinia region.

Before relocating to Italy, I worked as a mapping consultant for municipal tourism boards in Europe. This background taught me the value of structured geographical data and local rules. When I first visited Teulada and saw the double-arched bay of Tuerredda, I realized how vulnerable these white sands are. The carrying-capacity model enforced at Tuerredda is a progressive policy in the Mediterranean. By capping the daily visitor flow at 1,100 people, the local authorities are actively preventing the sand loss that has plagued other Sardinian beaches. I believe that educating visitors on rules like the mandatory beach mat underlayment (Obbligo Stuoia) is the best way to support these efforts.

Through my articles, I hope to show that eco-preservation and premium travel can coexist.
